What kind of safari is right for you?

There are thousands of camps, hundreds of possible routes and plenty of opinions about where you should go. The easiest way to cut through the noise is to start with the kind of trip you want, then work backwards to the destinations and camps that fit.

Start with the experience, not a list of lodges

Before you compare camps, think about the moments you are travelling for. That might be watching the Great Migration, spending time with your family somewhere completely different, combining safari with the beach, or simply finding a quiet place where you can switch off.

Once we understand what matters most, the route becomes much clearer. A family with younger children needs a different pace from a couple celebrating an anniversary. A first safari may suit the classic wildlife areas of Kenya or Tanzania, while an experienced safari traveller may prefer the remote waterways and smaller camps of Botswana.

How much should you try to fit in?

It is tempting to add another park, another country and another famous lodge. But every move takes time. Packing, transfers and small flights can quickly turn a wonderful safari into a long sequence of travel days.

We usually prefer fewer places and enough time to enjoy each one properly. Two or three nights may work for a simple stop, but longer stays often create better wildlife viewing and a more relaxed trip. If a second country adds a genuinely different experience, it can be brilliant. If it simply adds another border, it may not be worth it.

Tell us the rough idea and we will help with the rest

You do not need to know the difference between every conservancy, safari circuit or camp style before you enquire. That is our job. A rough date, a budget range and a sense of what you are hoping for is enough to begin.

We will talk through the sensible options, explain the trade-offs and show you a small number of routes that fit. Every trip below is a starting point, not a package you have to accept as written.

Ways to Safari: your questions answered

Which type of safari is right for a first visit to Africa?

A tailor-made safari is usually the best starting point because the route can be shaped around your dates, budget and wildlife priorities. Family, luxury, honeymoon and multi-country are not separate products. They are different ways to focus the planning.

Can one trip combine more than one safari style?

Yes. A honeymoon can also be multi-country and luxurious, while a family safari is still tailor-made. We use these styles to understand what matters most, then design one coherent journey.

How long should an African safari be?

Seven days is a useful minimum for many long-haul trips, while ten to fourteen days gives more room for two wildlife areas, another country or a beach finish. The right length depends on travel time and how often you want to move.

Can I combine safari with a beach stay?

Yes. Tanzania pairs naturally with Zanzibar, and Kenya can combine safari with the Indian Ocean coast. We plan the flights and transfers so the beach feels like a relaxed final chapter.

How does planning begin?

Tell us your rough dates, who is travelling, your budget and what you most want from the trip. You do not need a finished itinerary. A specialist will come back with first recommendations and refine them with you.

Not sure which way to safari?

Share your dates, budget and the experiences on your wish list. A specialist will recommend the route and travel style that make the most sense together.
