Experiences

The experiences that define a Botswana tour

From gliding the Okavango by mokoro to Chobe's elephant herds and the salt pans of the Makgadikgadi, a Botswana tour layers up the very best of Southern Africa. Flick through some of the experiences we can build into your trip.

Okavango water safaris

The Okavango Delta is one of the few places in Africa where water and land safaris sit side by side. Your guide poles you silently through papyrus-lined channels in a traditional mokoro, drifting past red lechwe and kingfishers, then heads out by 4x4 for the Delta's famous predators. It is touring at its wildest and most exclusive, and the centrepiece of most Botswana trips.

Balance the water and the wilderness

Botswana works best when the route combines contrasting environments rather than rushing between too many camps. Pair the waterways of the Okavango with drier game-viewing country, allow enough time in each place, and let the season guide the balance between mokoro trips, boating and drives.

Botswana safari tours: your questions answered

What does a Botswana safari tour include?

Our Botswana tours are fully tailor-made, so the exact inclusions are built around you, but a typical tour covers your camps and lodges, all internal light-aircraft flights and road transfers between areas, game drives, boat and mokoro activities with expert local guides, park fees and most meals. We handle the routing end to end so each area connects smoothly and you simply enjoy the safari.

How long should a Botswana safari tour be?

Most Botswana tours run from 7 to 12 days. A week lets you pair the Okavango Delta with Chobe or Victoria Falls; ten days or more gives you room to add the Makgadikgadi salt pans, the Linyanti or the Kalahari for contrast. We'll shape the length around your dates, pace and budget rather than a fixed package.

When is the best time for a Botswana safari tour?

The dry season from May to October is prime touring time. Wildlife concentrates around permanent water, the bush thins out and, in the Okavango Delta, the annual floodwaters peak (roughly June to August) for superb water-based safaris. The green season (November to April) is quieter and lower-priced, with lush scenery, newborn animals and excellent birding. We'll match the timing to the experience you want.

How much does a tailor-made Botswana safari tour cost?

Botswana follows a low-impact, high-value model, so its tours sit at the premium end of African safari. Ours start from around $8,500 per person and rise with more remote camps and longer stays. Because every tour is built from scratch, we shape the camps, length and pace around your budget, and we hold exclusive rates at many of the best camps.

Can a Botswana tour include Victoria Falls or a beach?

Yes, most of our Botswana tours begin or end at Victoria Falls, which is an easy hop from Chobe. You can also extend to the beaches of Mozambique or Zanzibar, or combine Botswana with a Cape Town and winelands stay. Tell us what you'd like and we'll build the whole tour around it.

Best time for a Botswana safari tour

Botswana is rewarding year-round, but the character of a tour changes with the water and the seasons. The dry months bring the Okavango flood, superb mokoro conditions and concentrated wildlife, while the green season offers quieter camps, dramatic skies, newborn animals and excellent value.
