A Big Five safari in Kenya, Tanzania or Botswana is the strongest starting point for most first-time travellers. It offers varied wildlife, expert guiding and a clear sense of the African bush. From there, you can add a defining experience such as the Great Migration, Victoria Falls, the Okavango Delta or a few days on Zanzibar.
Yes. Most tailor-made African safaris combine two or three complementary experiences. Popular combinations include the Serengeti and Zanzibar, gorilla trekking with a Kenya or Tanzania safari, and Victoria Falls with Chobe and the Okavango Delta. The key is keeping travel time proportionate so the itinerary still feels relaxed.
The Great Migration moves through Tanzania's Serengeti and Kenya's Maasai Mara throughout the year. Tanzania is best for the southern Serengeti calving season around January and February, while the northern Serengeti and Maasai Mara are associated with river crossings, usually between July and October. Exact movement depends on rainfall, so camp location matters.
Yes. Gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda combines well with savannah wildlife in Kenya or Tanzania. A typical trip includes one or two gorilla permits, time in the forest and a separate safari in destinations such as the Maasai Mara, Serengeti or Ngorongoro Crater. Regional flights make the combination practical.
Tanzania and Zanzibar is the simplest classic safari-and-beach combination. Northern Tanzania's Serengeti, Ngorongoro Crater and Tarangire connect easily with Zanzibar by air. Kenya also pairs well with Diani Beach or Zanzibar, while a Southern Africa safari can finish in the Indian Ocean with a longer flight connection.
Choose around your travel dates, wildlife priorities, preferred pace and budget. Migration and water-based experiences are more seasonal, while Big Five game viewing and gorilla trekking can work across much of the year. A specialist can then match those priorities to the right country, camps and route.
