Our most popular regional combinations
Kenya and Tanzania is the classic combination. The Serengeti and Masai Mara form one great ecosystem, so the journey feels connected rather than like two separate safaris. It works particularly well for travellers who want the famous East African landscapes, excellent big-cat viewing and the option to finish on Zanzibar.
Botswana and Victoria Falls is another favourite. Begin beside the Zambezi, continue to the elephant-rich Chobe River and finish among the waterways of the Okavango Delta. The scenery and activities change at every stop, while the route remains relatively simple by road and light aircraft.
Tanzania can also combine with gorilla trekking in Uganda or Rwanda. This gives you two completely different wildlife experiences: time on the open savanna followed by the forests of East Africa. We normally recommend allowing at least twelve to fourteen days so neither part feels rushed.
Safari and Zanzibar is technically a safari-and-beach combination rather than two mainland countries, but it remains one of the most popular ways to travel. A short flight takes you from northern Tanzania to the Indian Ocean, making it easy to add several relaxed nights after the safari.
