What we love about The Highlands Lodge
Its prime location - Although it feels incredibly remote,The Highlands Lodge is actually only a small distance from Ngorongoro, a hotspot for safaris in Tanzania.
It celebrates culture - Here, you have the chance to interact with the local community, learn about the unique Maasai culture and walk the cattle back to their boma as the sun sets.
The stunning views - Nestled on the lush slopes of Olmoti Volcano, The Highlands offers sweeping views of the Serengeti below that are breathtaking every hour of the day.

Accommodation
The Highlands Lodge consists of eight domed suites, inspired by the traditional Maasai Boma. Made of canvas and glass, they nestle perfectly into the rolling hills.
There is one family tent with a room for children, and a honeymoon suite fitted with a hot tub.
Every suite is fitted with a kin-sized bed facing floor-to-ceiling windows, leading out to a private deck that curves perfectly around the entirety of the dome.
All have en-suite bathrooms with hot water, showers, and flushing toilets.
In the evenings, relax with a drink around your own personal wood-burning stove to keep you cosy and warm.

Activities at The Highlands Lodge
There is an abundance of activities to enjoy at The Highlands Lodge, and the friendly staff will be more than happy to help organise these for you.
Some of our favourites include:
- Ngorongoro Crater walks and game drives with a knowledgeable guide
- Olmoti Crater climb with an array of wildlife to spot on your walk
- Exclusive Empakaai Crater climb - due to its location, The Highlands is the only property that can offer a convenient half-day excursion here.

Brilliant says
At the heart of the camp is a library with an indoor fireplace that replaces the typical safari campfire. Gather here each evening to share stories of the day’s experiences over pre-dinner drinks!
When to Visit
Ngorongoro is a year-round safari destination, but we suggest to visit in May to avoid crowds. July and August are when the Ngorongoro receives the most tourists.
There is a fairly big difference in climate between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It also rains more around the crater rim and night-time temperatures can drop down to freezing, so pack lots of layers.
