It's an exclusive location - Situated on the secluded Matemwe Beach, tis location is an incredible location for reef snorkelling on one of the best beaches in Zanzibar. Privacy and exclusivity are important to Matemwe Lodge, and it's one of the quieter locations on the island.

Incredible food - All the food at the lodge is locally sourced and sustainable. Meals are a mix of gourmet and traditional Zanzibari cuisine with a heavy focus on seafood. Enjoy a buffet of pastries or a Full English for breakfast, and enjoy a barbecue in the evenings. 

Accommodation and Amenities

Matemwe Lodge consists of 12 chalets - 6 triples and 2 with luxurious private plunge pools. All are fitted with ceiling fans to keep cool throughout the day, and over-bed air conditioning in the main bedrooms.


Also available is WiFi internet throughout the property, laundry service, and a hair dryer.


Extra amenities available to you include two swimming pools to lounge around with a cocktail from the bar, and a relaxing spa with an array of luxury treatments. 

Activities at Matemwe Lodge

Reef Walk  - During the low tides, explore the reef and the rock pools that emerge, searching for small creatures in the water. 


Cultural Village Visits - Explore local villages, embark on a spice tour, or take a visit to Stone Town and soak in all the tradition and culture. 


Diving and Snorkelling - Immerse yourself in the pristine Mnemba Atoll, and discover what the crystal clear waters have to offer.

Mnemba Island is a 30-minute boat ride away, where the world-renowned coral reef offers some of the most amazing snorkelling experiences in the world. Keep a look out for turtles and dolphins that reside around the reef.

When to Visit

Matemwe Lodge is closed from April to May. Its high seasons run through July, September and October, with peak season being in August and the Christmas/New Years period. 


We suggest travelling during low season, which occurs from January to April, June, and November to December.
