What we love about Emboo River Camp

It's sustainable: Emboo River prides itself on its 'holistic approach to sustainability. The camp operates on local and renewable sources, such as wetland plants that filter wastewater and solar power to charge the electric vehicles used for safaris.

Community Driven: Part of the Maasai community, the camp has partnerships with local artisans and businesses. The furniture is made locally with gum poles grown at Emboo River’s garden and the nearby Maasai village receives fees from guest visits learning about the Maasai culture to name but a couple.

It's Well Awarded: The camp boasts an array of accolades, including being nominated as a finalist for Most Compelling Sustainable Tourism Story (WTM Africa) and a Gold Eco-Rating (Eco-Tourism Kenya).

Rooms and Amenities

Emboo River Camp is a safari glamping experience, blending in perfectly with the surrounding wildlife. The tents open fully on both sides so that you can take in the views of the river to its full extent - even the rain shower boasts this lush view. The camp also has no fences around it, allowing the animals to roam freely around you - watch the elephants passing by, and the hippos bathing in the river.

The luxury tents are fitted with modern handmade furniture, created from locally sourced materials by local artisans. The en-suite bathroom has high-end showers, personally designed for the camp by the brand Kenny & Mason.

Each tent has a terrace - a private place perfect for eating breakfast or finishing a book after a long day of safari adventures.

Brilliant says

"It's super cool, going closer to game, with no noise, no emissions — it's just amazing," says William Partois Ole Santian, the manager and co-owner of Emboo River Camp in the Maasai Mara, the only Mara safari camp that has so far gone all-electric with its fleet. "This is exactly what the Mara needs now: People who are eco-minded and sensitive about their footprints in the wild."

Activities at Emboo River

There are an array of activities for you to explore at Emboo River Camp. Here are just a few of our favourites:

  • Unlimited game drives throughout the whole day - this is your getaway and you can set the pace.
  • Lounge around the swimming pool with a river view or indulge in a relaxing spa treatment. (The natural pool uses an innovative system that doesn't harm the environment - they use no chlorine, salt, or other chemicals!)
  • Explore the Maasai Mara during a Bush Walk, go on an Eco Tour and plant trees to offset the carbon dioxide emitted during your travel to and from the Maasai Mara.
  • Embark on a cultural excursion to the Maasai Village. Learn more about the Maasai traditions and history.

Farm to Fork

Emboo River has its own organic vegetable and herb garden fitted with a monkey proof cover. The camp says that because is in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, more substantial farming cannot and should not be done. Instead, there's a second garden outside the Reserve where vegetables, fruits and honey are produced.

Emboo River Camp's menu includes dishes inspired by local and international cuisines. The menu is based on a ‘flexitarian’ diet, meaning that it's focused mainly on vegetable dishes and limits the number of meat-based meals.

Emboo Camp knows that limiting the consumption of meat has a big positive impact on the environment, because the production of meat is paired with high use of water, deforestation and the emission of methane gas.
