Why we like this camp

  • We love that you're staying right inside the Maasai Mara National Reserve with the iconic Mara River on your doorstep - you'll have front-row seats to some of Africa's most spectacular wildlife viewing, especially during the Great Migration.
  • The camp's intimate scale with just 20 luxury tents, creates an exclusive atmosphere where personalized service is the norm, not the exception. You'll feel like you have the Mara to yourself.
  • Your tent's open-fronted design on a raised wooden deck facing the river strikes the perfect balance between authentic safari living and modern comfort.
  • The Maasai guides here are exceptional, bringing decades of local knowledge and passion to each game drive, giving an insight into both wildlife behavior and Maasai culture.
Entim Mara

How does Entim Mara Camp compare to other options in the Masai Mara?

Entim Mara sits right inside the Masai Mara National Reserve along the Mara River, which puts you in prime position for Great Migration river crossings between July and October. This is a huge advantage over camps outside the reserve boundaries.

With just 20 tents total, it's more intimate than some of the larger camps in the area. What makes it stand out is the combination of location and authentic community partnerships with local Maasai communities. The camp doesn't have a swimming pool like some competitors, but honestly, you'll be too busy watching hippos in the Mara River to miss it.

The Private Wing option with 8 separate tents gives you extra privacy if you're looking for something more exclusive. Most camps in the area are either much larger or don't offer this kind of split setup.

We think it's worth noting

  • There's no swimming pool at camp, so if you are traveling with young children or hoping for resort-style amenities during the heat of the day please bear this in mind.
  • The open-fronted tent design that makes the views so spectacular also means you'll hear wildlife throughout the night, and there's limited ability to block out early morning light.
  • After dark, you'll need a staff escort to move around camp since it's unfenced - while this adds to the authentic bush experience, some find it restrictive.

Entim Mara FAQs

  • What types of rooms are available at Entim Mara Camp?

You've got two main options at Entim Mara, and both come with those amazing river views everyone talks about.

The 12 Standard Safari Tents are perfect for most travelers. Each sleeps two adults and welcomes kids 8 and older. You'll get either a double or twin bed setup, your own bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet, plus a private wooden deck where you can watch the Mara River and plains stretch out in front of you.

If you want more space and privacy, the 8 Private Wing Tents are where it's at. These come with their own private lounge area and dedicated facilities, so you're a bit removed from the main camp buzz. Perfect for couples wanting that extra intimacy or small groups who like their own space.

All the tents have that classic safari style with open fronts, so you're practically sleeping under the stars while staying completely comfortable.

  • What's included in your stay at Entim Mara Camp?

Your stay covers pretty much everything you need for an amazing safari experience. All your meals are included, from bush breakfasts to sundowners on the deck. The drinks package includes curated spirits, house wines, beers, and soft drinks, so you're well taken care of.

You'll get two shared game drives every day with experienced Maasai guides, plus transfers to and from Ol Kiombo Airstrip. Bottled water and all the bed night and community fees are covered too.

The main things you'll pay extra for are any optional activities like balloon safaris or spa treatments. If you book with us, we'll handle all these details upfront so there are no surprises.

  • Is Wi-Fi available at Entim Mara Camp?

Yes, there's free Wi-Fi in the main lounge and bar area. Just keep in mind this is a remote safari location, so the signal strength and speed can be pretty limited. It's perfect for checking in with family or sharing a few photos, but don't expect to stream movies or have video calls.

Honestly, most people find they don't miss fast internet once they're watching elephants cross the river right outside their tent.

  • What's the best time to visit Entim Mara Camp for the Great Migration?

For the famous river crossings, you'll want to visit during Peak Season from June 15 to October 14. This is when the wildebeest herds are moving through the area and attempting those dramatic Mara River crossings you see in documentaries.

July through October is prime time since the camp's location right along the Mara River puts you front row for the action. The animals are literally crossing right in front of the camp.

If you're flexible with dates, Shoulder Season (early June or mid-October) can offer great wildlife viewing with slightly lower rates. Low Season from November to December still has excellent resident game, just without the migration spectacle.

  • Are children allowed at Entim Mara Camp?

Kids are welcome, but there's an age minimum of 8 years old. This policy exists because the camp is unfenced and you're right in the middle of serious wildlife territory.

Children 8 and older can stay in the Standard Safari Tents with their parents. If your child needs their own tent, they'll pay 75% of the single occupancy rate. Generally, kids aged 3-12 get 50% off adult rates, and under 3s stay free.

The camp works best for families with older children who can appreciate the wildlife experience and follow safety guidelines. Staff will escort everyone at night for safety since animals freely roam through the area.

  • How do you get to Entim Mara Camp?

Most people fly from Nairobi's Wilson Airport to Ol Kiombo Airstrip, which is only about 10 minutes from camp. The camp provides vehicle transfers to and from the airstrip, so that's all sorted for you.

The airstrip location is perfect because you're landing right in the heart of the Maasai Mara instead of dealing with long road transfers. If you're driving, keep in mind only 4x4 safari vehicles are allowed to access the camp due to the terrain and wildlife considerations.

If you book with us, we'll coordinate all your flights and transfers so everything flows seamlessly from Nairobi to your tent.

  • What wildlife can you expect to see at Entim Mara Camp?

You're in prime Big 5 territory here, with lions, leopards, elephants, rhinos, and buffalo all regularly spotted in the area. The camp's location inside the reserve along the Mara River is absolutely perfect for wildlife viewing.

From July to October, you're positioned for the Great Migration river crossings, which is genuinely one of nature's most incredible spectacles. Huge herds of wildebeest and zebra attempt to cross the river while crocodiles wait below.

Your morning and afternoon game drives with Maasai guides will take you through different areas of the reserve using open-sided 4x4 vehicles designed for photography and viewing. These guides know the land intimately and can track animals in ways that constantly surprise people.

Even outside migration season, the resident wildlife is fantastic. Hippos are always in the river, and you'll likely see giraffe, cheetah, and incredible birdlife year-round.

  • What dining experiences are available at Entim Mara Camp?

The main dining area serves a great mix of international and local cuisine, but the special dining experiences are what really make it memorable. Bush breakfasts out in the savanna, sundowners while watching the sunset over the plains, and private dinners on your tent's deck.

Bush lunches during full-day game drives let you eat surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness. The kitchen can accommodate most dietary requirements with advance notice.

All meals are included in your stay, along with drinks like curated spirits, house wines, beers, and soft drinks. The staff are happy to arrange special celebrations or romantic dinners if you're marking an occasion.

  • Does Entim Mara Camp have a pool or spa?

There's no swimming pool at Entim Mara, which actually makes sense when you've got the Mara River right there with hippos and crocodiles. Most people find they're too busy with game drives and wildlife viewing to miss having a pool.

The camp does have a small open-air spa offering various treatments, but spa services aren't included in your stay and cost extra. After a day bouncing around in safari vehicles, a massage can be absolutely worth it.

The focus here is really on the authentic safari experience rather than resort-style amenities, which honestly feels perfect for this location.

  • What's the minimum stay requirement at Entim Mara Camp?

You'll need to stay at least 2 nights, which honestly makes perfect sense. One night barely gives you time to settle in and appreciate the location.

With two nights, you'll get at least four game drives, time to experience different dining options, and a real feel for the rhythm of camp life. Most people find they want to stay longer once they're there and see how much wildlife activity happens right around the camp.

If you book with us, we'll help you plan the ideal length of stay based on what else you're doing in Kenya and what you most want to experience.
