A Tanzanian Odyssey - 9 - $12,906

Trip Summary and Itinerary Map

Spend an amazing 9 days in Tanzania, seeing the best it has to offer - from Lake Manyara to the Ngorongoro Crater to the Grumeti Reserves and so much more...

The sun was nearly at its peak when we arrived at Lake Manyara. Entering the park, you’re immediately struck by the size of the lake - its huge surface taking up roughly two-thirds of the park’s total area. It’s a soda lake - meaning it’s very salty - but it has a productive ecosystem. There was no wind today, and so the surface glinted smooth and silver under the midday sun.

Landmarks visited on A Tanzanian Odyssey

Day 1: Legendary Lodge

Begin your epic nine-day flying safari at Legendary Lodge in Arusha. Situated at the foot of Mount Meru and surrounded by lush tropical gardens, Legendary Lodge feels like your very own personal retreat. The cosy, tranquil setting and atmosphere of Legendary Lodge add to the experience. Enjoy gourmet meals, a spa treatment and stroll through the lush gardens that surround the lodge. Your one-night stay will leave you feeling refreshed and ready for the adventure that lies ahead.

Days 2 and 3: Lake Manyara

Drive the short distance to Arusha Airport before you catch a flight to Lake Manyara for the first stop on your safari. Privacy, luxury and tranquillity are at the heart of Chem Chem Lodge. You’ll spend two nights here, on the eastern edge of Lake Manyara nestled among palm trees, in ultimate luxury. Your days will be spent game driving through the region or exploring the area on foot. The watering holes situated in front of the lodge allow you to spot wildlife on your doorstep while relaxing in camp or even while you take a dip in the pool, which boasts its own magnificent views of the region.

Days 4 and 5: Ngorongoro Crater Area

A driver from Chem Chem will transfer you to the Manyara Airstrip where a guide from &Beyond will meet you to drive you to the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater Lodge where you’ll stay for two nights. Stop at the viewpoint to take in your first sight of the volcanic caldera before continuing to the lodge, which boasts breathtaking views overlooking the crater. Your private butler ensures all your needs are taken care of while in camp. Enjoy game drives in the Ngorongoro Crater in search of the abundant wildlife, including black rhino. Guided nature walks on the lodge grounds are also available.

Days 6 to 8: Grumeti Reserves

Transfer back to the Manyara airstrip by road before your light aircraft flight to the Grumeti Reserves, to the west of the Serengeti National Park. Your final three days will be spent at Singita’s Faru Faru Lodge, which embodies a fresh take on the usual African safari by incorporating elements of luxury in the wilderness. Set within Singita’s 350,000-acre private reserve in northern Tanzania, Faru Faru provides the ideal opportunity to get closer to East Africa’s incredible wildlife including leopard, lion, rhino, elephant, hippopotamus, cheetah, wild dogs and many species of birds on game drives and guided walks. The natural watering hole situated in front of the camp means wildlife pass through daily, and you’ll be treated to game sightings from the comfort of the lodge.

Day 9: Kilimanjaro Airport

After a final breakfast at Singita Faru Faru, you will depart for the airstrip for your light aircraft flight to Kilimanjaro Airport, where you can collect your luggage and check-in for your international flight home.
