Update - 21st July 2021

Kogatende Testing Centre Open

This month, the much-anticipated COVID testing centre opened in Kogatende in the Northern Serengeti, making it easier and more affordable to get PCR testing done within easy reach of camps in this area. Our partners are offering accommodation at camps in the area to the medical staff to help support this much-needed facility. Guests staying in camps on the Lamai wedge side of the Mara River will need to either fly in a nurse or stay their final nights on the Kogatende side to make use of this testing centre.

Tanzania rapid tests

As part of the requirement for all arriving passengers into Tanzania to have a rapid COVID-19 test, it is now possible to prebook and pre-pay for this test at the same time as filling in the online Traveller Health Surveillance Form. We recommend all travellers prebook this test to ensure a speedy and straightforward arrival into the country.

Latest Protocols - 2nd July 2021

On Arrival

All arriving passengers into Tanzania require a negative PCR test result not older than 72 hours prior to arrival, and will be subjected to a Rapid Test on arrival at a cost of US$25 per person. Children below the age of 5 years are exempt from the need to produce a negative PCR rest certificate.

Passengers arriving from India, or who have travelled through India within the past 14 days, shall be subjected to a Rapid Test on arrival followed by 14 days of mandatory quarantine. A list of designated quarantine options will be provided by the government.

All arriving clients must complete the Traveller's Health Surveillance form within 24 hours prior to arrival. The form must be completed online at the following link: https://afyamsafiri.moh.go.tz/

Your temperature must be below 37.5 C, and no cough or any other fly like symptoms. No self-quarantine requirements for clients not showing any symptoms. Masks must be worn at all time in public.

If Symptoms are Displayed

A secondary screening will be performed alongside questions around travel routes and potential exposure. Vitals will also be taken. An RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test may be performed.

If symptoms are still displayed, the client will be moved to an isolation room, before being transferred to the Mawezi Hospital in Moshi for testing and treatment.

If the client tests negative, they will be released. If positive, they will be retained for treatment.

Combinations with Kenya

Clients arriving from Tanzania into Kenya are no longer subject to the mandatory quarantine, provided their country is on the quarantine exempt list.

The ban on Kenyan flight operators landing in Tanzania has been lifted, and there are flight options in place with SafariLink, Auric and Coastal.

Exit Requirements

Travellers exiting Tanzania will be tested for COVID-19 only if:

  • The airline requests it
  • The country of origin/next destination requires it

Booking Conditions

The COVID-19 pandemic is the biggest challenge the travel industry has faced in decades. We are working closely with all of our partners on the ground in Tanzania to stay up to date with all the latest developments, supporting our 2020 bookings with their postponed trips, and preparing for the upcoming travel season.

As a traveller, you'll likely have many questions and reservations about booking a trip right now - we totally understand that. There remains a lot of uncertainty, but we have worked hard to negotiate with our suppliers so that we can amend our booking terms to provide you with flexibility you need to book with confidence for 2021 and 2022.

For any booking made after 1st May 2020, the following booking terms will apply:

  • Fee-free postponement to a future date should your trip be postponed due to COVID-19.
  • Should your trip be postponed due to COVID-19, any and all monies paid towards the trip to date will be transferred across to the postponed trip.
  • No deadline will apply to postponements, meaning whenever you are available to travel, you will have a trip with us.
  • Should your trip be postponed for reasons specific to Kenya (e.g. entry/exit requirements, non-COVID events), you can transfer to one of our other destinations in East Africa: Ethiopia, Uganda, or Kenya. Note that in this case, it may not be possible to transfer across all monies paid towards the original trip.
