A Unique Experience

Our partners at Nomad Tanzania know how to do camping. Whilst many of us have been embarking on ‘staycations’, they’ve been perfecting the fly-camping experience in our absence, ready to welcome us back when the time is right.

What’s great about fly-camping is leaving the main camp behind to sleep out in the middle of nowhere under the clear night sky. Nomad’s Chada Katavi camp is on our to-do list - they say the trick is to leave everything you’ve brought with you (from belongings to current affairs) behind and completely immerse yourself in the experience.

Sleeping Under the Stars

Nomad says:

‘The simplicity of sitting around a campfire, the feeling of washing the day’s dust off under a bucket shower beneath the open sky, and the exhilaration of lying in bed looking through your netting tent to the endless starry sky is something that can’t be adequately expressed — you just have to experience it for yourself.’

Katavi is comprised of millions of wild acres, it’s a place where very few humans get to explore. It’s estimated that the park only has 1,500 foreign visitors on average annually out of the 900,000 registered in the whole Tanzania National Parks system, so spending the night there is a once in a lifetime experience.

But what’s the difference between glamping and fly-camping? They’re complete opposites of one another. Fly-camping is adventurous, it’s a special opportunity to get a grasp on what’s going on in the ecosystem whilst being surrounded by incredible wildlife experiences. The point of fly camping is to experience the African wilderness with as much freedom as possible, with only the finest line drawn between you and wild Africa.
