What we love about Mandhari Lodge
A room with a view: Mandhari Lodge offers luxury accommodation options; nine spacious, glass-fronted suites, or one honeymoon suite. The villa and all suites have a sweeping view across the incredible landscape below.
It's environmentally friendly: Built with all locally sourced materials, the lodge has a passion for the environment around it and a respect for its history. The reception, dining area, lounge, bar and swimming pool is perched upon a eucalypt platform, decorated with hand-crafted furnishings.
A hub for exploration: Explore the nearby Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara National Park and Ngorongoro Crater on safari one day. The next, take in the culture with traditional spa treatments, highlands hiking, Swahili cooking lessons or African drumming.
The History of Mandhari Lodge
Mandhari Lodge evolved as a result of respect for the late Karen Mason. With her grown children and their families, she set out on a mission to develop this unique area and build a getaway that was thoughtfully placed, with the breathtaking views of the historic environment.
Sadly, Karen lost her health battle, and after a difficult decision, her children decided to move forward with their lives. Donna and Nas, the owners of Maasai Wanderings and Nasikia Camps, showed interest in the project. It became a stop-gap for Nas on his trips to and from the Serengeti - with nothing yet built on the land, he would walk down to a secret lookout along the Rift Valley to watch the world below.
Donna knew Nas's love for the land, and it was only after she lost her husband in a tragic plane crash in 2017, that she set herself to make sure Nas's peaceful stop would reach the potential that he dreamed of.
Donna developed the site exactly how Karen Mason had planned it and as Nas would've expanded on it. She was helped by the builders that Nas mentored for other projects now led by Nas's cousin, Rick Thomas. Mandhari Lodge is a labour of love and sits proudly on the edge of the Manyara Escarpment, a part of the Great Rift Valley System.
