Trip Summary and Itinerary Map
Breaking through the morning clouds was the peak of Mount Kenya in the distance. Formed around 3 million years ago after the opening of the East African Rift, Mount Kenya is a volcano nestled under ever-shrinking glacial blankets. It’s a stunning sight, the whites of the summit relaxing to into deep greens of the alpine forest on the lower slopes.
The itinerary below is designed to give you an overview of the route. Get in touch with our team for a full travel itinerary, or to create a tailor-made trip.
Day 1: Nairobi
Depart Nairobi with your guide and 4×4 Land Cruiser and stop at the Kereita Forest, approximately 1.5 hours from the outskirts of Nairobi, where you will enjoy the thrill of a ziplining adventure through the forest.
Enjoy a picnic lunch before going mountain biking through the forest. In the mid-late afternoon, depart on a 2.5-hour drive to the southern shores of Lake Naivasha, or alternatively stay at the nearby Chui Lodge.
Day 2: Nairobi to Mount Longonot & Hell's Gate National Park
Head out with your guide in the morning for Mount Longonot volcano. As you hike through the forest to the crater rim, you’ll be spoiled with incredible views. Once there, you’ll stop for a snack and enjoy the magnificent views before hiking down to the trailhead where your guide and vehicle await you.
In the mid-afternoon, you’ll head to the nearby Hell’s Gate National Park for an afternoon of mountain biking, exploring this unique landscape of canyons and towering rock cliffs. The biking isn’t particularly strenuous here, and you’re very likely to see zebra and other plains game, which makes this a mountain biking trip with a difference! Return to your lodge for a well-earned dinner.
Depending on your level of biking experience this can be made more challenging, cycling down and through the canyons, or take easier routes if you prefer. Please advise your preference at the time of booking.
Day 3: Ol Pejeta Conservancy or Nanyuki
Depart after breakfast at Chui Lodge and drive to the Aberdare National Park western entrance. From here, you'll enjoy a game drive through the park, looking out for some of the varied wildlife and birdlife that inhabits this largely forested area (including elephant, buffalo, reedbuck, bushbuck and Syke’s monkey). Stop for a picnic lunch in a scenic spot and continue your drive up and over the escarpment, enjoying far-reaching views towards Mount Kenya.
Descend and exit the eastern side of the park, and continue onward to the Ol Pejeta Conservancy, where you can extend your adventure with some time on safari.
